Wine Labels

Image

This Charles Bukowski Wine Label was part of a series of Wine Labels I did for a class assignment. I created the label using Photoshop. The idea behind it was to create a wine label that took an ironic marketing twist, by promoting alcohol with famous alcoholics and their somewhat derogatory attitudes toward drinking.

Man on Wire

Philip Petite walks tight rope across WTC Towers.
James Marsh’s acclaimed film, ‘Man on Wire’ left me completely astonished, the photograph above should explain why. Marsh’s 94 minute documentary captures the remarkable story of one Philippe Petit, a French high-wire artist who, on the morning of August 7 1974,  walked a tight rope strung across the two World Trade Center Towers (with no safety net or harness). The amazing feat took him 6 years in planning with the help of a small team of friends. Astoundingly, Philippe managed to sneak into WTC building 1, in a laundry hamper, he and his friends evaded security  all the way to the rooftop where he set up the tightrope using a cross bow and cable.

At approximately 7:15 am the next morning, Philippe stepped off the building and walked for a total of 45 minutes before police intervened and arrested him for trespassing.

The stunt was received with mass public ovation, so much so that Philippe was acquitted of the charges laid against him and granted a lifetime pass to the Twin Towers Observation Deck.

“When I see three oranges, I juggle; when I see two towers, I walk.” – Philipe Petite

John Cage’s 4’33: The Zen Of Silence

An Illustration of John Cage by Joe Ciardiello.

4’33 is a composition by work of American experimentalist composer, John Cage.  4’33, by far Cage’s most controversial and renown piece, consists of no instruments, instead inviting the audience to listen to the sounds of the environment, enduring a total 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence. 4’33 was conceived around 1948 and is said to be a product of Cage’s studies of Zen Buddhism around the same time.

“4’33 has prodded us to re-evaluate how we define not only music but the entire experience of encountering art.”- John Adams – ‘Zen of Silence: A biography of John Cage’.

“Eyes as Big as Plates”

Image

I was browsing through tumblr photos when I came across this very enchanting photography series titled, “Eyes as Big as Plates”. By collaborative effort of photographers, Riitta Ikonen and  Karoline Hjorth, the series was created  featuring elderly people donned with organic materials. The project originally began as a play on protagonists from Norwegian folklore but has since moved focus toward exploring “mental landscapes” that reflect “a return of body to nature” .
